The Facility (2012) Movie review

Posted on 2:14 PM by Unknown

The Facility (2012)

Plot:  Prosyntrex Pharmaceuticals have a new drug Pro9 that needs testing.  Luckily there are always plenty of terminally skint people (like me) willing to risk their health taking experimental drugs for the betterment of mankind....sorry cash.

A miss match of stereotypes turn up including students Adam (Aneurin Barnard) Carmen (Skye Lourie) & Arif (Amit Shah),  tosser Jed (Oliver Coleman) & unemployedMorty (Steve Evets) there is also journalist Katie (Nia Roberts) who is there undercover to see the desperation people will reach when Wonga is not enough.

Drugs are bad

As we know drugs are bad and these have fuck nasty side effects ranging from physical effects skin blisters & bleeding to paranoia & madness.  The horror that either they will fall victim to the drug or those already effected

Is it all worth 2 grand (Hell Yeah!!)

Is it good:  Yes; This very low budget horror/thriller gives a perfect view of the group drug trial environment.  Which won’t be good for a lot of people as its mostly dull as fuck, full of getting to know you bullshit, the odd spattering of wankers, smelly people and very occasionally a fit skint blonde student with nice tits as in this film.
Confused

The acting is of a good standard, most have TV or low budget film experience. Alex Reid (The Descent), the actress not the cross dressing cage bummer, is probably the most high profile.

The setting, a locked down clinic/lab, works well as when things go wrong it gives a feeling of being trapped and isolated.  Also the "Guinea Pigs" seem more helpless in hospital gowns, like their identity has been taken away and it’s almost justified that they can be used and thrown away because they volunteered.

The Emo blonde is hot & naked for a very very short amount of time (I rewound just to make sure for reporting purposes only of course).

Fern cotton - make up free
Turdige: There isn’t that much character development making it slightly difficult to get drawn into the fight for survival.

There is no music or score, which in low budget films I prefer but a lot of people can’t deal with.

The main problem is the build up (or in other words nothing happening) it’s far too long for a short film.

Overall:   This is how Casualty should be every week.  A Decent effort, low key but violent, atmospheric flick with enough gore and shocks to keep people entertained.  A kind of mini locked down 28 days later (2002).  If you prefer your films something like this but with over the top gore & Eric Roberts go with Bloodwork (2012) instead

Director: Ian Clark Cast: Alex Reid, Steve Evets, Oliver Coleman, Oliver Coleman, Aneurin Barnard and Chris Larkin
